Come at me, 2022!!
Every year around this time, as I’m sure we all do, I think about where I was this time last year and imagine where I’ll be this time next year… where I’ll be living, what I’ll be doing, what the upcoming year will bring.
This time last year, I was in the midst of an online wedding photography course, in a new job that I was enjoying (although it turned out not to be what I thought, though little did I know this was all for the better) and getting out of auto mode on my Canon 1300D, thanks to the aforementioned course.
Ready for some cliches? Never did I imagine on 31st December 2020 what I’d be up to during the following year… so THANK YOU, 2021!!
Upgrading my camera to a Canon 6D Mark II.
Quitting my full time job to grasp self-employed life.
Second shooting at 12 weddings alongside some brilliant photographers and wonderful couples.
Photographing 2 weddings on my own!
Being booked for 6 more weddings across the country! (Hello imposter syndrome!)
Photographing wonderful families, expectant mothers and newborns.
At this point, I just had no idea, I mean literally not a clue, about what I wanted to do!! So all I did was imagine what the year would bring, rather than plan. Now that I’m totally into the throws of being a wedding and family photographer, I can think pretty clearly about what I want 31st December 2022 to look like, and with clear goals, comes clear strategies and planning…
Shooting 20 weddings (combined as a second shooter and as a main photographer).
Surprise shoot - ie a couples shoot that turns out to be an engagement shoot, or a pregnancy announcement. Maybe you even announce it to the father while we’re photographing!!
Booking 1 destination wedding (anyone getting married in Bora Bora…?)
Learn Italian - I’m not expecting to be fluent, but I think the language is gorgeous, and when pizza is your favourite food, it only makes sense, right?!
Freelance film editing - I’ve been freelancing for wedding photographer, Sam Docker, some of which has included editing the course I mentioned in at the beginning… funny how things come around! Getting to grips with it, it would be great to help out some other time-poor videographers, or anyone recording a course to help them out.
Upgrading kit - I did it once in 2021, and I’m getting to a much better position to invest in a new camera body, and some new lenses. I’d love to have an R6 in addition to my 6D Mark II, as well as a 35mm and 85mm lens.
So, this time next year, I’ll meet you back here with this list and we’ll see what 2022 has brought about!!
Happy New Year all!!
🥂
